Spring Table

I have updated my table to "just spring" decor.  The Easter eggs are put away and in their place has hatched a little family of birds.

I kept the books and framed printable.  The real flowers are in a glass pitcher and were our Easter centerpiece.  Then I took some green cylinder tins (from my mom) and arranged them on the table.  One is filled with faux flowers and one is empty.  I then made these birds.

They are adorable and super easy to make.  I found the tutorial here.  My only problem was getting them to balance on their tiny legs.  I added a little super glue to the 2 perched on the books and they were ready to weather a storm.

Chocolate Pudding Pie

This is by far the easiest dessert ever and a great one to have on warm evenings.
Ingredients:     Graham cracker pie crust (or better yet try the Oreo pie crust)
Pudding mix (and ingredients on pudding box)

Mix pudding according to box.  I use the instant pudding mix and it requires 3 cups of milk.  Add pudding mixture to pie crust and place in refrigerator.  Prepare the pie in the morning and it will be ready for your warm summer evening.  Garnish with whip cream, crushed Oreos, or gummi worms.

Getting a little work done

My computer has been acting up lately when it comes to opening other websites.  Kevin has an IT guy at work that is looking at the computer for us.  So at this moment my computer is "getting a little work done".  No blogging for a couple of days.  I will back at it as soon as possible.

Wedding Shower

My mom gave a wedding shower for by cousin's soon to be wife.  I say that she gave the shower because she was the financial backer.  I just came up with the ideas.  For the weeks up to the shower, she scoured Goodwill, Dollar Tree, and any other little store for blue (their wedding color) and yellow (our accent color) accessories.  I took a couple shots of the food and drink tables.
I hope you can notice the blue and yellow accents.  In the front I have a cake stand that I can thread with ribbon.  We bought blue ribbon, placed a bread bowl filled with dip on top, and bread pieces on a silver charger below.  The rest of our menu included: pigs in a blanked (the bride to be's favorite), frut, veggies, parmesan breadsticks, mini quiches, quesadillas, and cupcakes.

The mini cupcakes were fabulous.  A friend of mine, Neelley Parkes King (check her out at the The Sweet Life) made the cupcakes.  The mini cupcakes are dangerous though.  Because they are minis you feel like you can eat multiples.  Before you know it have eaten 3 or 4 cupcakes.

Mom served fruit tea, lemonade, and water to the guests.  The middle vase is filled with yellow crinkle paper with blue Ws (new last name) placed on top.
And last but not least are the mother and sister of the groom (my aunt and youngest cousin) and the bride to be.  Mom and I had fun planning the shower.  Hopefully everybody enjoyed it.

Easter Decor

Now don't get me wrong, I love all holidays.  I alaways decorate for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the big one...Christmas.  But for some reason after the new year my decorating inititative goes out the window.  I think I might be burnt out from the winter holidays.  That, however, is no excuse.  I am going to try to put up a little decor for each holiday.
I started with a glass vase filled with tissue paper.  The eggs on skewers are Mod Podged with newspaper.  They were originally a gingham blue that just wasn't doing it for me.  The little white bunny is sitting on a candle holder surrounded by wooden easter eggs.  I bought a frame at Dollar Tree, spray painted it white, and added a printable from here.  I needed to add some depth so I covered some books with brown wrapping paper and placed the bunny and eggs on top.  I would guess the Easter decor/table centerpiece cost $5.00.  Thanks mom.

Initials, Initials Everywhere

I am finally almost finished with all of my Cs for the initial wall in our living room.  I have been trying to create different shapes and patterns to get variety on the wall.  I already posted a few of the Cs here.  I have 2 more that I made yesterday that I am in LOVE with.  I bought 2 frame at Goodwill, $0.99 each thank you very much.  I painted both the frames, one green, one white.  I wasn't worried about perfection.  I like the weathered "I have a story" look.
With the green frame, I took a piece of fabric and glued it to the cardboard frame backing.  I painted a C white and hot glued it to the fabric.  With the white frame, I left the cardboard backing piece as is and gave it a good coat of Mod Podge.  I used a wooden C to trace onto a piece of red fabric.  I cut it out and Mod Podged it to the cardboard.  I love both and almost wish I could do the whole wall in these framed Cs.  We will see what the finished wall brings us.

Just linking up

No crafts here today.  I have three tutoring sessions with student athletes and three online sessions with whoever they assign me.  I have a couple of crafts to finish up this weekend.  And hopefully with Kevin gone I can get the initial wall up and running.  I did link up the Scrabble word art with:

Words with Friends

Nathan, Leslie, and Caroline came down to Oxford last weekend.  We had a great time.  We all got burnt at softball, ate some of the best yogurt, and hung out in the backyard playing football and ladder ball.  In between all of that fun, the visitors were addicted to words with friends.  If you haven't heard it is basically scrabble on your iPod.  Well, Kevin is now playing so I thought I would do a little initial art inspired by Words with Friends.
Supplies:
   -frame and paint if needed
-print out of scrabble board (I found online)
   -scrabble letters and hot glue

I painted my frame, inserted the scrabble board print out, and hot glued the letters on top of the glass.  Waiting for the paint to dry was the longest part of this project.  All in all, if your frame is ready, the project would take less than 10 minutes.  Sweet!!

Surprise visitor...

My brother and his girlfriend are headed down here for the weekend.  I had Nate's birthday present all wrapped.  I made 2 bracelets for Leslie.  Then I get a phone call saying that Caroline, my sister, is coming too.  Well, I can't have a gift for everybody else and not her.  I had 2 wooden bangle bracelets left so I got to work.  I painted one brown and gave it an antique feel.  The other I covered with purple tissue paper, giving it a leather look.  Mod Podge was my adhesive of choice for both.
I wrapped the brown one with some jute.  I wrapped the purple one with some silver jewelry wire.  I added 2 clear beads I had from earrings I wore in college.  The purple bracelet should definitely get some wear at "good ole CHS".

I hope you noticed that I put a link in the first paragraph.  I am learning.

Welcome back

Nathan, Leslie, and maybe Caroline (brother, his girlfriend, and sister) are coming in for a visit the weekend.  We are going to watch Ole Miss v Tennessee softball.  Hopefully we get to walk the square, I am in it for the yogurt.  Nathan's birthday is Monday so his present is wrapped and ready to go.  I wanted to do something for Leslie because she hasn't been to our house since October and it was just a bachelor pad then.  I started with this.
I had 2 wooden bangle bracelets that I wanted to decorated for her.  I got my brushes, paint, ribbon, lace, Mod Podge, cups, and plate.  First I coated the smaller bangle with a water and brown paint mixture.  I wanted it to have a more antique look.  The larger bangle was covered with an almost navy color paint.

I took an orange ribbon and Mod Podged it to the larger bangle.  She is an Auburn fan.  The smaller bangle got a lace ribbon.  It was easier if you Mod Podged a section at a time and let it dry.  You didn't have to worry about the ribbon moving.

I have also covered these bracelets with tissue paper and got a neat effect.  I am going to work on a little something for Caroline next.  We will see what I come up with.

Mongram Love

I am old school but I love a good monogram.  I know they might be a little last season but who cares.  I have been working on creating a ton of different "C"s for a wall in our living room.  Here is what I have thus far.
Starting from the left, I painted a canvas brown and streaked it with some black.  I took a wooden letter and used it to make a stamp.  The wooden C I used ended up painted green and at the bottom of the canvas.  Next I found the small decorated canvas along with the letter at Michaels.  I painted it and hot glued it to the canvas.  Done.  Last I spray painted the final canvas an almond color and traced different Cs.  Kind of the subway art look.
Again, starting from the left.  I bought a frame from the Dollar Tree and removed everything but the glass.  I painted a wooden C and hot glued it onto the glass.  Next, is a chipboard C wrapped in twine from the Dollar Tree.  Another Dollar Tree find was the mirror that I painted a C on.  I then took another chipboard C and mod podge pages from an old book onto it.  I took a Hobby Lobby C and painted it (with my free Valspar paint sample).  Lastly is the tissue paper C made from cardboard from a cereal box and tissue paper.

I need some more C ideas.  I am going to do one covered in moss.  And am thinking about doing one wrapped in yarn.  Any other ideas out there?

Finally...the vanity.

I had scoured Oxford for a vanity table or desk to use as a make up table in our new master bedroom.  Make up tables remind me of my grandmother and I had the room in our new house to have one of my own.  I finally found one and Kevin bought it for me for my birthday back in January.
It was white with some blue poking through.  While the colors were great it did not go with the master.  One weekend while Kevin was away with softball, I got to painting.  I have been obsessed with spray painting and I found the perfect color at Home Depot.  Three cans of spray paint later I had this.
I added the mirror from Goodwill and the re-covered piano bench street find.

The make up brush glass was a dollar store purchase.  The cream colored bowl was a wedding gift gathering dust.  I found the lamp at Goodwill for $3.99.  The tall planter was originally a fire engine red, repainted flat brown.  I bought the flowers at the dollar store and arranged them in a small square vase.  Lastly added the "happily ever after sign".

I created the tray from the sheet
music of the first song Kevin and
I danced to.  The little stand was
from my mom.  And I found the
                                                                                                                 silver container at Target and
                                                                                                                 filled with moss.

I have been using the table all week now and love it.  I like being able to sit down to my make up.  I feel like a proper lady, too.
